In the petroleum industry, Welan gum can be used to prepare drilling mud to maintain the viscosity of water-based drilling fluid and control its rheological properties. Welan gum is also a new type of oil-displacing agent, which is used for tertiary oil recovery of oil wells. When Welan gum is prepared into an aqueous solution of suitable concentration and injected into the well, and pressed into the oil layer to displace oil, the oil recovery rate can be greatly improved. In addition, Welan gum can also be
used as a flow improver in well completion, workover, formation fracturing and heavy oil transportation.

 

 

Welan gum can be widely used in cement and concrete. It can enhance the water retention of mud. When it is used as a water retention agent, it does not need to use a dispersant like other additives. Welan gum can increase the plasticity, suspension capacity, air content, anti-sag ability, flow characteristics and resistance to water loss of cement. These improved characteristics remain unchanged when the temperature increases. Compared with other additives, lower concentrations of Welan gum can achieve good results.
